Derby Makers Series featuring Tyler Robertson

Derby Makers Series Part I

Creating something with your own two hands has seen its time come and go. The art of one-of-a-kind is hard to find. In Louisville, Kentucky, there’s a thriving community of artists and makers honing their craft—we’re proud to partner with a few of them this Derby season. Introducing Tyler Robertson x Clayton & Crume.

Introducing: Tyler Robertson

In the basement of an 1860’s church sits an unassuming studio, scattered with paint cups, worn down bristles, and paint splatter across the floor. This is Tyler Robertson's studio, an equine artist in Kentucky creating heirloom canvas paintings.

Tyler was a teacher for 18 years – and for 18 years he pushed his passion for art to the side. It wasn’t until 2015 when he set-up shop in a small Kentucky restaurant where he sold his first equine painting to a gentleman who truly admired his unique style, which ultimately gave Tyler confidence to commit to his craft.

His paintings are a modern take on otherwise traditional subjects. His use of bold compositions, line work, colors and use of a pallet knife brings his paintings to life.

Tyler’s work has quickly moved from friends and family commissions to painting for the likes of Maker's Mark, Churchill Downs, and art galleries worldwide.
