The perfect pair of loafers should be your everyday wear. They are the ideal choice for any occasion, whether it is the biggest night of the year or a casual dinner with friends.
For the next entry in our footwear collection, we set out to make loafers that you can rely on. These are shoes that you can live in.
Style
Loafers have been around for over two centuries, so we took the best features to use in ours. Built the right way, the beefroll design reinforces high-stress areas of the loafer with folded and stitched leather, adding durability that holds up for the long haul. This hand-stitched detail originally functioned as reinforcement for durability, but today tells you that these are damn good shoes.
Leather
The moment you pick up these shoes, you’ll feel the quality of the leather and craftsmanship instantly. That’s Chromexcel Leather, sourced straight from legendary Horween Tannery in Chicago. This 100 year old leather recipe is chock-full of natural oils and waxes, and was originally created for the purpose of shoemaking. That also means these loafers will break in quickly, molding to your feet for a perfect, custom fit.
Construction
We are using the tried and true process known as Goodyear welting to ensure your loafers last a lifetime. For over 100 years, great shoemakers have sworn by Goodyear welting, allowing their loafers to be recrafted and resoled. Today, most pass on this method because it is both expensive and time-consuming, but we wanted to bring you the best loafers we could - so Goodyear-welted it is. This process ensures many years of service, guaranteed.
We made these loafers to become your everyday wear. The sole has the perfect height for comfortability. While fully leather soles look nice, they can be slippery and make wearing loafers daily a pain. We added a rubber half-sole so you have more grip and traction, while maintaining that classic, timeless loafer look.
Portugal
To make loafers the way only Clayton & Crume could, we travelled the world looking for the right place to create them. We are continuing our partnership with the skilled cobblers and artisans in Portugal where factories feature fourth and fifth generation makers. Great shoes aren’t made in new factories, and these loafers were built to bring heritage to your heels.
Sizing
We recommend selecting a half-size down from your true size, as measured on a Brannock Device. You can find one of these in our three retail stores, or nearly any store that sells men’s footwear. If you have a standard size in dress shoes, that will likely align. Tennis shoe sizes are not a reliable sizing mechanism and can vary significantly. If you already own a pair from our Heritage Collection, we recommend sizing down by half a size for the best fit.
Your loafers will have a snug fit initially- the leather will stretch slightly with wear, molding to your feet in time.
Re-crafting and Re-Soling
We are so confident in the durability and quality of our loafers that if you wear out the soles we want to help them last even longer. Send us your pair and we will have them re-crafted, ensuring your use will be measured in decades not days. Just email us at support@claytonandcrume.com to get started.
We believe these loafers are the next evolution of our commitment to making quality personal goods. We know once you wear them they will quickly become your everyday wear. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
